Why 'Best LPG Cylinder' Is the Wrong Question

If the equipment stays in one building and you're going through more than a few cylinders per month, a single 47 kg LPG cylinder is the workhorse choice. More capacity means fewer changeovers, fewer delivery touches, and fewer empty-container emergencies.

But the free delivery required a $30 fuel surcharge plus a $25 handling fee. We walked away and picked up the bottle ourselves. The cheapest option was the one where the total cost was visible. What Everyone Forgets: Compliance and Certifications
Across all three scenarios, the hidden expense that gets ignored is compliance. For many steel cylinders, that means a visual inspection every 5 years or a hydrostatic test every 10 years, depending on the specification. Composite cylinders have their own requalification requirements, and the service life may be stamped on the cylinder.

How to Decide Without a Spreadsheet

- How many full cylinders does this location consume in a typical month? If it's more than two or three and the use is stationary, start with 47 kg LPG cylinder economics.
- How many times a week does someone lift or move the container? If the answer is multiple, weight becomes a real cost. That moves the composite propane tank up the list.

The exact cutoff depends on your labor, delivery fees, and ability to buy gas in bulk. I can't tell you whether your threshold is 10 cylinders or 50. Last Thing: Trust the Quote That Shows the Ugly Fees
